Broward County Boosts Entrepreneurship with Scholarships and New Partnership with Alan B. Levan NSU Innovation Center

An increased cooperation between Broward County and the Alan B. Levan | NSU Broward Center of Innovation, or the Levan Center, is significantly enhancing the county’s entrepreneurial scene. The County’s choice to become a Corporate Partner and the distribution of scholarships to aspiring business owners served as markers for this strategic advancement.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners has agreed to provide 20 scholarships for graduates of the 2024 Kauffman FastTrac NewVenture Entrepreneurship Program, according to information made public today by the Levan Center. This program is part of the 100 Startup Project, which supports start-ups and scale-ups.According to the official release, the graduates received these scholarships on October 16th, which allowed them to access Levan Center facilities that are said to support community-driven economic growth.

Additionally, as part of the growing collaboration, a satellite office will be established specifically for the County’s services. Beginning in December, “Technical Assistance Fridays” will be held on the first and third Fridays of each month by the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD). It will highlight OESBD’s resources and services, such as federal and local small business certification programs, and will be held at the Levan Center, which is part of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center. In a statement obtained by the center’s press release, Monica Cepero, County Administrator and member of the Levan Center Board of Governors, said, “We encourage a more inclusive community of entrepreneurs better equipped to succeed by expanding those offerings with even greater access to government contracting as well as local and federal certification programs.” OESBD Director Sandy-Michael E. McDonald echoed this perspective when he said the cooperation shows a dedication to ongoing process improvement and maximizing the synergies from well-cultivated partnerships.

The Levan Center’s Interim Executive Director, Kelley Shanley, highlighted the group’s dedication to helping the entrepreneurial community. According to the official statement, Shanley emphasized, “This partnership with Broward County’s OESBD is a testament to our shared commitment to nurture entrepreneurial talent and foster economic growth.”
