Modesto Woman Sentenced to 70 Months for Meth and Heroin Trafficking, Co-Defendant Fugitive

According to official authorities, a resident of Modesto has been sentenced to over six years in prison for narcotics trafficking. U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert stated that Lupe Aime Busio-Valencia, 43, had been sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for her involvement in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of heroin and methamphetamine.

On July 22, 2020, Busio-Valencia and Jose Garcia Herrera, 63, were arrested for attempting to transport drugs. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the two were found in possession of three kilograms of heroin and ten pounds of methamphetamine, which they cleverly concealed in a secret compartment beneath the driver’s seat. But after missing a planned court appearance, Herrera has since gone missing and is now a fugitive.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Modesto Police Department worked together to conduct the investigation that resulted in the sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephanie Stokman and Justin Lee prosecuted this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said in an official statement that Busio-Valencia’s sentence demonstrates the court system’s continued dedication to fighting drug trafficking.

Garcia Herrera, the co-defendant, is still at large, while Busio-Valencia is currently dealing with the fallout from her role in the drug trafficking. The charges against Herrera are, as usual, just accusations, even if he is currently a fugitive. Until he is found guilty in a court of law, he is presumed innocent. Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge on Herrera’s whereabouts to get in touch.
