Hillsborough County Man Files Class Action Lawsuit Against Netflix for Streaming Failures During Tyson-Paul Fight

Dissatisfaction with a promised extravaganza that devolved into a technology disaster has led to the filing of a class action lawsuit in Hillsborough County. Ronald “Blue” Denton is at the forefront of the campaign against Netflix for what many saw as a poor live feed of the highly anticipated bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. Denton charged Netflix with breach of contract and unfair, deceptive practices in a complaint filed on Monday, according to WFLA.

Watching Tyson, dubbed “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” battle the YouTuber-turned-prizefighter had raised expectations. Viewers were left to contend with a feed that “60 million Americans were hyped to see,” but the complaint claims that it fell short of providing the entire live viewing experience. A statement acquired by FOX59 states that Netflix had no comment on the matter, despite the lawsuit’s allegations of a “unwatchable” incident. The complaint included reports of “over 100,000 people complaining online” to demonstrate the general discontent.

Although the lawsuit claims that both casual viewers and boxing enthusiasts experienced an evening of inconveniences, such as “no access, streaming glitches, and buffering issues,” information about the larger context comes to light. During the exciting night, at least 98,000 outage reports were recorded by the real-time service outage tracker Downdetector. However, WTSP emphasized the plaintiff’s post-event frustrations, claiming that Denton had to “bite their gloves” in dismay as the fight’s broadcast continuously stuttered.

Furthermore, the complaint makes reference to other instances of Netflix’s missteps in the live-streaming space, such as those that transpired at the 2023 “Love Is Blind” live reunion. The streaming service plans to swiftly attempt to make amends with another live event: a doubleheader NFL game on Christmas Day with Beyonc performing at halftime.
