The Austin Police Department is looking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run case. The collision that killed a man happened on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, just after one in the morning, according to the APD. Authorities explained in an online statement that the collision occurred close to the Murphy’s gas station in the 700 block of East Ben White Boulevard SVRD WB. The pedestrian victim, now known as Michael Schoenherr, was declared dead at the site.

Following the collision, the unidentified suspect left the scene without pausing. The public has been asked to assist in locating and identifying the suspect’s car. “Anyone with any information should contact APD’s Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111,”the message continues. By visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477, you can also anonymously provide information with the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, which offers a reward of up to $1,000 for any tip that leads to an arrest.

This event, which is being investigated as Austin’s 58th deadly crash of the year, has increased the city’s 2024 death toll to 63. Austin had seen 63 deadly crashes at this time last year, with 66 people killed. As the Vehicular Homicide section conducts their investigations into this unfortunate incident, authorities stress that all mortality information is still awaiting and that initial reports from the scene are still being investigated.
