Law enforcement officials are still searching for 23-year-old Tony Jameson Sweeton, who escaped from a prisoner transport van in Franklin County, as part of the ongoing manhunt for an escaped inmate. Sweeton escaped Wednesday at around 8:27 p.m., close to the crossroads of Highway 127 and Wattendorf Highway, at the boundary between Franklin County and Coffee County, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.According to WSMV, Sweeton is believed to be hiding in a wooded area to the west of his escape route.
Sweeton, a Coffee County prisoner, broke out on his way to a Franklin County court appearance. He is being sought by law authorities, including the Arnold Air Force Base Police, Tullahoma Police, and Tennessee Highway Patrol. Sweeton has blue eyes, blonde hair, tattoos on his neck, and a height of 5’7″ and 155 pounds. When last spotted, he was dressed in black-and-white striped slacks and a white t-shirt. According to FOX 17, residents living close to Millers Crossroads or Winchester Highway are urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings.
Tony Sweeton, the escapee, is charged with aggravated assault, stealing, and resisting arrest, among other offenses. The matter is being handled jointly by the sheriffs of Coffee and Franklin counties.
