Early on Wednesday morning, tragedy struck I-40 as Knoxville police announced a driver had died in a traffic accident. Around 3:45 a.m., the Knoxville Police Department received a complaint regarding a Toyota Corolla that was parked in the far right lane of I-40 close to Midway Road, according to WVLT. The situation worsened when, shortly after, the back of the Corolla was struck by an eastbound box truck, resulting in the driver’s premature death. The driver of the box truck was unharmed.
The accident’s terrible circumstances were communicated by KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland. “A box truck traveling east on I-40 had collided with the rear of the stopped Corolla just minutes later,” he added. Officers found what they believe to be cocaine and heroin inside the Corolla at the scene. The officers found “assorted narcotics,” including suspected heroin and crack cocaine, inside the Corolla, according to WATE’s report on the event. It has not been revealed how exactly the drugs, if at all, relate to the collision.
