Residents of East County covered by rural fire districts or departments are being specially invited to apply for a position on Boulder County’s Emergency Services Grant Program Advisory Committee. According to Boulder County, the purpose of this call for applications is to fill a single position on the committee, providing an opportunity to take part in evaluating and guiding the use of sales and use tax funds allocated for the support of emergency services.
The selected person will serve a three-year term and should be prepared to actively participate in committee operations, such as providing semiannual input to the County Commissioners and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The tax’s revenue, approved by voters in 2022 under County Issue 1B, is intended to support underfunded or underresourced groups, many of which offer vital emergency services throughout the rural and mountainous regions of the county.
The nine-member group meets practically every fourth Tuesday of certain months using Zoom. It takes a summer break before meeting again in the winter, spring, and fall. In addition to attending these frequent meetings, the selected applicant would be asked to put in an extra eight to ten hours twice a year to thoroughly evaluate grant applications and provide thoughtful funding recommendations.
