“After nearly 31 years of working for the Department of Public Works, I have decided to step into a new chapter of my life and retire from City of Milwaukee service,” stated Jeffrey Polenske. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Polenske started working as a Traffic Control Engineer for the Department of Public Works. When asked about his professional life, he replied, “I take great pride in the City that I have lived in and worked for since going to school at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then getting my first job with DPW as a Traffic Control Engineer.” He also highlighted the positive aspects of his job, saying, “It really has been a rewarding career working with so many dedicated public servants over the years and it has been a pleasure to serve as a Cabinet Member for Mayor Tom Barrett, as well as, Mayor Marvin Pratt and Mayor John Norquist since 2000.” According to the City of Milwaukee, Polenske is now eager to continue his lifelong dedication to Milwaukee while pursuing new career objectives with Michael Baker International.
The departing Commissioner Polenske sent his sincere appreciation to his coworkers and employees at the Department of Public Works, highlighting their continued commitment to community service. “With great appreciation, I want to specifically thank all employees of the Department of Public Works for their continued efforts to provide a high quality of service to our community,” he said. In his farewell letter, Polenske conveyed his sincere appreciation for the steadfast support he received over his tenure in public service, especially from his family. “Lastly, I must not forget the support, patience, and love that my family has shown me over the years,” he said, underscoring their crucial role. As stated by the City of Milwaukee, he also expressed his excitement about continuing to explore Milwaukee with his wife, Lisa, and taking advantage of the city’s resources.
