Earlier this morning, a tractor-trailer flipped over and caught fire on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, causing the southbound lanes near Interstate 895 to close. SkyTeam 11 footage shows the aftermath and traffic building near the accident site, and WBAL-TV reports that the incident caused major delays.
The driver of the car was taken to the hospital right away after the collision, and one of the firefighters who arrived on the site was slightly hurt. As fire and emergency personnel gathered, the parkway, a center of continuous movement and transportation, was suddenly silent and covered in smoke.According to FOX Baltimore’s report, the fire happened on I-295 South at the intersection with I-895.
The surrounding population was reassured by officials from the Baltimore County Fire Department that, in spite of the flaming display, there was no more risk associated with the incident, and the fire was quickly put out.
Although there are yet little facts about what caused the collision or the driver’s condition, county police have warned drivers to expect prolonged traffic delays as cleanup and investigation work is conducted.
