The Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board awarded $2.5 million in grants to support Oklahoma’s efforts to combat the opioid problem. According to the Oklahoma Attorney General, the money will be used for initiatives aimed at treating, educating, and lowering the availability of opioids. It will be distributed across a number of counties, towns, and school districts.

Grants totaling $300,000 have been awarded to Comanche and Osage counties. The money will be used by Comanche County for transportation for drug court participants, housing for those in recovery, and an opioid task force. The Osage Nation Health System and Osage County will work together to allocate the funding for counseling, preventive, and treatment services. Following a June investment of $11 million to support 71 political subdivisions, these grants are part of an ongoing endeavor. According to the Oklahoma Attorney General, the current grants also give applicants who were previously unsuccessful the opportunity to revise and resubmit their financing plans.
