Riverview Tragedy, Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Involving School Bus and Pickup Truck on U.S. 301

A tragic event occurred on U.S. 301 in Riverview when a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a Hillsborough County school bus and then a pickup truck. The Florida Highway Patrol revealed that the collision happened yesterday at approximately 4 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Duncan Road. According to WTSP, the 43-year-old school bus driver was trying to make a left turn while a yellow light was flashing when she got in the way of the 26-year-old Sun City Center man who was riding a motorcycle heading north.

A statement obtained by the Tampa Bay Times revealed that the 12 students on the bus at the time of the accident were physically unharmed, and that the motorcyclist, after colliding with the bus, then collided with a Dodge pickup driven by a 55-year-old Riverview man. However, neither the pickup driver nor the school bus driver was hurt. Jacqulyne Pleasant Edwards of Brandon, the bus driver, is not currently facing any charges or citations. According to FHP spokesperson Sgt. Steve Gaskins, the investigation is still ongoing Thursday, and the Hillsborough County schools spokesperson did not respond to the school official’s questions about his employment status.

Although it was reported that all north and southbound lanes of U.S. 301 were closed while the investigation was underway, the FHP has not provided much specifics regarding the collision or the possible number of more injuries. According to FOX 13 News, aerial imagery from SkyFOX showed the chaotic scene ringed with patrol vehicles encircling the bus, indicating that drivers were advised to avoid the area.
