Two Men, Including Victim’s Grandson, Charged in South Pasadena Murder-Burglary

In relation to the murder and break-in of Susan Miller, a 75-year-old South Pasadena resident, two individuals have been charged. Miller was discovered dead from several stab wounds in her Brent Avenue home on June 4. According to KTLA, her grandchildren made the horrifying discovery while performing what began as a wellness check and ended up being confronted with the death of their loved one.

Bikramjot Singh Padda, 28, Miller’s grandson, and Josh Edward Atkins, 44, an alleged accomplice, are among the defendants. District Attorney George Gascn made a statement expressing the community’s grief, particularly in light of the crime’s familial connection. “Our hearts are with Ms. Susan Miller s loved ones as they continue to navigate this senseless violence and loss,” Gasc n stated. According to CBS Los Angeles, “the fact that one of the defendants involved is the victim’s grandson makes the loss even more painful.”

Murder and first-degree house burglary with a person present are the allegations against both accused. The criminal complaint further claims that Atkins used a knife to carry out the act himself and that someone else was present during the break-in besides the accomplice. Atkins is currently being held on bail of $2.02 million, while Padda has a little higher bond of $2.05 million. As the District Attorney’s Office has highlighted, their arraignment is set for December 19.

Atkins and Padda may receive life sentences in state prison if they are proven guilty on the charges. Padda had already been detained after the incident, according to jail records, but he was freed two days later without being charged. According to CBS Los Angeles, Atkins was arrested on November 12 in the Santa Clarita Valley and was arrested again on Saturday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still looking into the situation.
