Jacksonville Commemorates MLK’s Legacy with 38th Annual Breakfast Featuring Pulitzer Prize Winner Jonathan Eig

On January 17, Jacksonville will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy with Florida Blue’s 38th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast. The gathering, which takes place at the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center, unites the community in contemplation of King’s values of equality and advancement. “The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast is an opportunity to honor his legacy and embrace a shared vision of unity, equality, and progress,” Mayor Donna Deegan stressed. As the keynote speaker, we are thrilled to have best-selling author Jonathan Eig bring together the past and present. In an announcement that the community of Jacksonville was able to secure for its news release, the statement said, “All citizens are invited to participate in this storied tradition and be part of our ongoing work to build a city where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

The program will begin at 8 a.m., with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jonathan Eig as the keynote speaker. Gates open at 7 a.m. In a thought-provoking speech, King: A Life author Eig will relate historical perspectives to contemporary concerns. The brunch and conversations, which are hosted by Dawn Lopez of Action News Jax and Anthony Austin of First Coast News, are intended to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy and spur communal advancement.

Jonathan Eig, a renowned novelist and historian who has won numerous literary honors, such as the PEN America Literary Award and the Barbara and David Zalaznick Book Prize, contributes a notable voice to the occasion. Ken Burns’s contributions to the PBS documentary Muhammad Ali and Eig’s six books, including four New York Times bestsellers, promise to challenge and inspire participants while strengthening their ties to Dr. King’s legacy.
