Phoenix Police Release Video of Officer-Involved Shooting, Suspect with Replica Gun Fatally Shot

A new Critical Incident Briefing video on an officer-involved shooting earlier this month has been made public by the Phoenix Police police, the police reported. The video describes the circumstances of a shooting that happened on November 5 near 3rd Street and Clarendon Avenue in Phoenix, according to the City of Phoenix. It may contain strong language and graphic content that some viewers may find upsetting.

When officers from the Mountain View Precinct responded to a call of a domestic burglary, they allegedly came upon a man attempting to scale a fence from an alley. According to the caller, the suspect was dressed in grey slacks and a red cap. A man who fit the description was noticed by the first police to reach the area. Three more officers came along the other side of the alley a few seconds later. According to the City of Phoenix, the individual disobeyed orders to reveal his hands, which he concealed in his pocket. The guy pulled out what looked like a gun and pointed it at one of the cops after an officer’s effort to deploy a less deadly launcher failed due to a malfunction.

According to the City of Phoenix, the individual was struck by two cops who fired their guns. Additional cops intervened later, disarming the suspect and attempting life-saving techniques. At the scene, however, Phoenix Fire Department staff pronounced the guy dead. The man’s possession, which was first thought to be a gun, turned out to be a replica.

No officers or bystanders were reported hurt in the aftermath. The two officers in question, who were assigned to the Mountain View Precinct and had eight and six years of service, respectively, are currently being investigated internally and criminally to see if their conduct were legal and compliant with department policy. After the criminal investigation is over, the case will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
