According to authorities, an 84-year-old man from Austin has admitted to killing his roommate and her dog and is now facing first-degree murder charges. When the Austin Police Department arrived at 6922 Bryn Mawr Drive at approximately 1:46 p.m. on November 18, they discovered the victims dead. The woman turned out to be 83-year-old Linda Mlsna, who had been living in her East Austin home for around 25 years and was affectionately referred to as Ms. Jeane in her neighborhood.
The whereabouts of the alleged offender, Jack Moore, were first unknown because he was not present at the house when police arrived. Soon after, it was found that Moore had made fraudulent posthumous purchases using Ms. Mlsna’s credit cards. Moore eventually confessed to detectives that he killed Mlsna and her dog, took her credit cards, and then made preparations to try to leave the country after being caught on an unrelated warrant, according to FOX 7 Austin.
The demise of Ms. Mlsna has left friends and neighbors in shock and heartbreak. “I already miss her,” Joyce Kelly, a neighbor and close friend, according to KVUE.
In addition to the murder accusation, Moore, who is now in detention, has a parole violation. At the moment, he is being held at the Travis County Jail without bond. The Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program allows anonymous tips to be made, and the Austin Police Department urges anyone with additional information to come forward and share them. The memory of Ms. Mlsna is as stark as the light that was formerly visible in her bedroom window in the early morning hours, now serving as a sorrowful reminder of what was lost, as the community struggles with this loss.
