Chicago Welcomes the Holiday Season with Record-Breaking Christmas Trees, Citywide Festivities, and a Tale of Hope

As reported by FOX 32 Chicago and NBC Chicago, respectively, the city is decked out in festive splendor, with the tallest Christmas tree from the 900 North Michigan Shops making its grand debut and the official city tree, a towering Colorado Blue Spruce, in Millennium Park being lit up.

“You can feel how everybody is so tuned into this!” said television personality Candace Jordan, who was thrilled to see the 900 North Michigan Shops’ 50-foot-tall Christmas tree become the season’s beacon at the Illuminate 900 event. Kosta Godinez, an 8-year-old who courageously battled juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia, was given the honor of lighting the tree. It was a joyful occasion, especially since Kosta is now cancer-free. His mother Maria confirmed the optimism that permeates their story, turning the tree lighting from a ceremonial switch flip into a symbol of hope and tenacity.

At the same time, Millennium Park will be illuminated by the 111th annual official Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Friday at 6 p.m., with a 53-foot spruce donated by the Holden-Shaddick family. Chicago residents should expect street closures around the area as the city gets into the spirit of the holidays, according to NBC Chicago.

Chicago’s Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is set to dazzle with one million lights, grandiose parades featuring a Muppet-themed balloon of Santa Kermit the Frog, and celebrity performances. The city is ready to celebrate, drawing crowds and holiday cheer alike. Additionally, the beloved Christkindlmarket opens its doors this weekend at Daley Plaza and RiverEdge Park in Aurora, offering a smorgasbord of festive goods ranging from spiced wine to handcrafted ornaments.
