Tennessee Department of Education Highlights Educational Excellence, 377 Schools and 10 Districts Distinguished in 2023-24 Designations

This year, the Tennessee Department of Education has highlighted the importance of education by recognizing districts and schools that have significantly improved student development and accomplishment. In a website statement, the TDOE listed the Reward Schools and Exemplary Districts that were designated for the 2023–24 academic year, along with those that require improvement.

According to a recent assessment, 97 districts and 377 schools were designated as Reward Schools, 10 districts were hailed as Exemplary Districts, and another 10 districts were identified as In Need of Improvement. The Tennessee Department of Education reports that the State Board of Education authorized this year’s designations on November 22 after considering a number of performance factors, including growth and achievement. The department’s accountability website has specifics on these awards.

Education officials were proud to receive the commendations. In the announcement, Commissioner of Education Lizzette Reynolds remarked, “I am excited to highlight the 2023-24 Reward Schools and Exemplary Districts for their dedication to fostering student learning and growth in their classrooms across the state.” Teachers and school administrators were commended for their steadfast dedication to high standards of education.

On a 4.0-point scale, Exemplary Districts required to receive an overall performance score of 3.1 or above, while each Reward School showed excellent performance or notable progress. This year, Van Buren County Schools, Arlington Community Schools, and Alcoa City Schools were named Exemplary Districts. The department’s accountability page has the full list of these prestigious districts.
