Storm Chaos at San Francisco International Airport: Over 100 Flights Delayed Amid Busy Thanksgiving Travel Week

During one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, San Francisco International Airport was disrupted by a severe storm that is currently plaguing the Bay Area. The bad weather has caused more than 60 cancellations and more than 430 delays on Wednesday alone, according to an NBC Bay Area report. Travel plans for those anticipating Thanksgiving celebrations are being put to the test as the storm is expected to last.

According to KTVU, travelers at San Francisco International Airport were facing over 100 delays and dozens of cancellations as the rainfall continued to march this morning. Bucky Dingler had nowhere to stay at the airport, so he had to sleep while he looked in vain for a hotel room. When he told KTVU, “They just kept delaying the flight,”

The storm is expected to develop between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. today, so even though there were less delays reported early this morning at the adjacent Oakland and San Jose airports, there is still a chance that things may get worse. Mykayla Williamson, a Stanford student, told KTVU that she was worried about getting home for a cousin’s wedding this weekend and was trying to get away from the mayhem. “I was concerned about travel delays,” she stated. “I have witnessed storms striking the Washington region, which is close to Seattle. This Thanksgiving holiday and getting home have been worries for me.

Mike McCaron, an aviation expert, emphasized the importance of travelers staying informed during these cancellations and diversions. “If we can’t get out of this weather, which it doesn’t look like we’re going to until sometime next week, all these people could be delayed and probably will be delayed to their destination,” McCaron stated to NBC Bay Area.
