A 30-year-old Riverside man named Daina Randle is presently being investigated for allegedly running a fraudulent fundraising scam that took advantage of victims via dating apps and social media. Randle went as “Jaed King” on the dating app Hinge, where he first made connections with possible victims, and used a false name to pose as a philanthropist, according to the KTLA.
Randle allegedly created a fundraiser that promised to offer discounted gadgets after building trust and even sharing on Instagram about a sizable donation to an organization that fights domestic abuse. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, victims were convinced that their money was being used for a worthy purpose and were encouraged to spread the word about the fundraising to their friends and relatives. As a result, they contributed more than $1,000 in the hopes of receiving items before Christmas.According to FOX LA, Randle allegedly stopped communicating with victims after the money was sent, barring them on social media and over the phone in order to prevent consequences.
Randle, who further concealed his identity by using the 818 area code, is currently being held in Los Angeles County on unrelated charges. At this time, investigators are aggressively looking for more victims who might have been duped by the suspect and are urging them to come forward. According to the SBSD Yucaipa Police Department, Sheriff’s authorities have disclosed images of Randle from his social media account under the handle “DONDADATHEKING” in order to identify and assist these further victims.
People are being asked to get in touch with Corporal S. Evans of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department if they think they may have been a victim of this scheme or if they have pertinent information. Officials offer a forum through the We-Tip Hotline for such reports and guarantee confidentiality for individuals who prefer to stay anonymous.
