A mother was killed and a 9-year-old kid was critically injured in a tragic crash on the Florida Turnpike in Osceola County. A sedan and an SUV were involved in the collision, which happened last night, according to ClickOrlando.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 5:53 p.m. close to mile marker 226—just north of the Canoe Creek Service Plaza. After the event, a 68-year-old woman who was a passenger in a sedan was tragically declared dead at the hospital. The vehicle struck a tree after veering off the road due to the impact force. A 9-year-old passenger and the 40-year-old driver were also hurt, with the small girl sustaining serious injuries. According to reports, all three of the victims were from Miami and were buckled up when the crash occurred.

A 19-year-old Orlando lady was operating the SUV when it veered into the inner shoulder while she was in the inside lane. The SUV collided with the left side of the sedan as the driver tried to alter the direction of the car. The SUV driver was unharmed in the collision, according to a companion report by WESH.

The exact cause of this unfortunate incident is still being looked into by the authorities, including the FHP.
