Former Lawrence County Specialist Indicted on Theft in Office and Fraud Charges

Charges have been brought against a former Lawrence County intervention specialist who was well-known for her work with the Educational Service Center Council of Governments for acts that violated a trust that had been put in her. Megan Catalogna was charged with office theft and other serious offenses after an inquiry revealed that she had been paid for work she had not done, according to the announcement made by Auditor of State Keith Faber.

The Lawrence County Grand Jury filed the indictment, which included two counts of criminal tampering with documents, one count of felony telecommunications fraud, and one case of felony theft in office. This comes after a complaint against Catalogna spurred an investigation by the Auditor of State’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU).She allegedly filed false timesheets for cleaning work at Tri-State STEM+M High School in South Point, according to the office of the Ohio Auditor of State. She received about $15,990 in compensation for the hours she did not work.

The SIU is currently preparing to prosecute Catalogna in the case that was filed against him in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court on Thursday. In order to foster integrity and openness in Ohio’s state and local governments, this body typically looks into fraud in public entities.

Under the direction of Auditor Keith Faber, the office of the Auditor of State is in charge of auditing more than 5,900 state and municipal government institutions. In addition to its supervision and investigative responsibilities, the office also provides financial assistance to local governments. The case against Catalogna demonstrates a persistent dedication to protecting public funds from personal misconduct.
