Authorities said a lady from Clearwater was arrested and charged with several offenses for trying to shoot a security guard at a nearby tobacco shop. The confrontation escalated after a verbal altercation inside the business involving 36-year-old Kelley Karabinos, according to the Clearwater Police Department.
After being escorted out of the business, which was off Gulf to Bay Boulevard, Karabinos took a revolver from her vehicle and pointed it at the security officer. According to the WFLA news, she apparently tried to shoot the gun multiple times before it malfunctioned. Karabinos then attempted to discharge the gun once more as he drove away from the scene, still pointing it at the security guy.
When Clearwater officers arrived at the smoke shop during the incident, they were able to catch Karabinos after she first tried to escape because the security guard had identified her car. Police then charged Karabinos with aggravated assault, driving under the influence, running and evading, and possessing a firearm while committing a felony, according to FOX 13.
After being brought to the Pinellas County Jail, Karabinos was charged with another crime, which further complicated her legal issues. She was charged with bringing contraband into a prison facility after authorities discovered three bullets concealed in her bra, according to a statement that WTSP was able to get.
