According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), two adolescents, including a 14-year-old, are being held in connection with a car theft attempt that turned violent into a shooting and a subsequent collision in Shelby County. The incidents started on Friday when deputies were called to a scene of shooting and attempted auto theft, which ended in a car wreck.
The two adolescent suspects were taken to the hospital for non-critical injuries following the collision on Raleigh-Millington Road south of Pleasant Ridge. The teenagers lost control of the car during their attempted escape, illustrating the results of quick and careless acts. Action News 5 reports that a third suspect escaped capture and is still at large.
The suspects’ attempt to break into a car in front of a house on the 5800 block of Chadwell Road set off the series of events. “As the victim exited his house, the suspects ran to their vehicle and fled the scene while allegedly firing shots at the victim,” as reported byWREG. The gunfire did not injure the victim or his belongings.
SCSO detectives responded to the scene promptly, and BRATS (Burglary, Robbery & Auto Theft) specialists were also involved. The suspects’ car had been reported stolen in the same neighborhood just prior to the incident. According to FOX13 Memphis, the 14-year-old defendant is charged with escaping arrest in a car, burglarizing a motor vehicle, and stealing stuff worth between $10,000 and $60,000.
