El Paso County Celebrates Safety Upgrade with New Traffic Signal at Falcon’s Rex and Meridian Roads Intersection

The Falcon neighborhood in El Paso County can rejoice because a much-needed improvement has been made to the infamous intersection of Rex and Meridian Roads. In an effort to improve everyone’s safety on the roads, El Paso County officials and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit celebrated the completion of the Intersection Improvement Project. The crossroads was notorious for traffic jams and car accidents prior to the modification.

The construction of a new traffic signal, which was recently inaugurated in a ceremony, is the most significant upgrade. Its purpose is to better control the large number of vehicles that pass through the crossroads on a regular basis. The renovation is an important step for community safety because the location was a hotspot for speeding and reckless driving tickets, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

Regarding the update, El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal issued a statement. “I am pleased to see this critical project completed,” he stated. Alongside the traffic signal, the project has widened the roads, which, when combined with better infrastructure, are intended to increase safety and ease traffic flow. Additionally, according to Sheriff Roybal, “drivers, passengers, and pedestrians will be safer when commuting to work, school, or recreational activities.”

Attending the occasion, El Paso County Commissioner and Board Chairman Carrie Geitner reinforced the idea of community progress. The Board of County Commissioners and El Paso County Public Works have acknowledged the need for better roads in less governed areas, which is reflected in the implementation of these measures. The Commissioner’s attendance, together with that of the participating deputies and construction workers, demonstrated the teamwork that was essential to the project’s success.
