Miami-Dade Heart Walk at FIU Highlights CPR Training Amid Fundraising Success

Thousands of South Floridians gathered at Florida International University’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus for the annual Miami-Dade Heart Walk on a weekend when health and community came together beneath the Miami sun. This year’s celebration of the American Heart Association’s centennial focused on more than just cardiovascular health initiatives; it also highlighted CPR training, a lifesaving skill.

One voice stood out among the crowds of people and the clamor of unity with a moving statement. “We want to spread awareness, because this can hit you at any age,” participating participant May Perez Johnson told WSVN after her friend passed away from a heart attack. Her presence and those of others served as a reminder that anybody may be a change agent by learning CPR and that heart disease does not respect age.

First held on the FIU campus, the Heart Walk was more than just a fundraising event. It was a mosaic of individual tales, educational initiatives, and neighborhood assistance. Under the direction of FIU alumna and day’s MC, @jferntv, the event was a huge success, supported by the school’s alumni and the collaboration of @baptisthealthsf. According to a post on FIU’s official government Instagram page, FIU President Ken Jessell was also present and participated in what was undoubtedly a day to remember.

Through their participation in the walks and discussions, people contributed to a significant amount of money being raised for the cause. By raising $565,000 for the American Heart Association’s research on heart disease, the event demonstrated the community’s dedication to combating one of the leading causes of death in the United States. From #MiamiHeartWalk to #HeartHealth and #GoPanthers, FIU’s enthusiastic hashtag support reflects the collaborative march towards healthier futures and stronger hearts, which is reflected in the funding.
