Fort Collins Hosts Registration Rodeo to Aid Landlords with Upcoming Rental Registration Deadline

Landlords and property managers in Fort Collins are rushing to meet rental registration requirements as the end of the year draws near. As a lifeline, the city is holding a “Registration Rodeo.” According to a notice on the City of Fort Collins website, the city’s last assistance event, scheduled for December 7 at the Fort Collins Senior Center, intends to assist property owners in completing the registration process prior to the deadline of January 1, 2025.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., landlords will have the chance to meet in person with City employees to register properties, get answers to any questions they may have, and get information that will assist them understand their registration responsibilities. Additionally, participants can take part in raffle drawings and get free coffee and breakfast. RSVPs are accepted via the city’s event page. Owner-occupied rentals and those in mobile home parks are excluded from the yearly registration process, so not all local homes are subject to the requirement. However, according to the city’s standards, costs for individuals who are responsible for paying them begin at $37 for single residences and increase by an additional $10 for each unit in bigger complexes.

“The Rental Registration Program allows property owners to self-certify that their units are meeting minimum housing standards, promoting safe housing choices for our community,” The goal of the program is to raise living standards, according to Alyssa Stephens, the rental housing manager for the City of Fort Collins. In an effort to encourage participation, Fort Collins is offering monthly prize draws as a carrot in addition to other incentives for registering by this year’s last day of December. According to the City’s website, completing the entire registration process online in less than 10 minutes should make compliance easier.
