Maui Commuters Alerted to Lane Closures for Pavement Checks on Key Highways Starting November 25

Attention, drivers in Maui: You should anticipate some slowdowns in your commute starting tomorrow. Thirteen state highways across the island will see a series of brief lane closures as part of the Hawaii Department of Transportation’s (HDOT) pavement condition inspections. The inspections will assist HDOT in staying ahead of the curve in road maintenance, spotting problems before the tarmac sings, the agency announced.

In order to test the asphalt’s thickness, density, and general heartiness, cylindrical samples will be scooped up during the day while most people are rushing to work or school. With activities planned from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., one lane may be blocked for up to 45 minutes at a time throughout the count. Traffic jams will start tomorrow and last until Wednesday. They will then take a break for the weekend before starting again on December 2 and lasting until December 5.

The impacted highways’ lineup is shown here, along with the dates you should put on your calendars. Don’t claim that we didn’t alert you. Lane restrictions will affect many roads tomorrow, including Kahului Beach Road, Maui Veterans Highway, Ka ih Lani Highway, and Ka ahumanu Avenue. North K Hei Road and Pi Ilani Highway join the mix the next day. Several locations along the Honoapi Ilani Highway are feeling the squeeze as the sampling frenzy comes to an end on December 5. Visit the HDOT website to view the whole schedule.
