When the ALPR cameras detected a stolen vehicle early on Sunday morning, the streets of Tiburon were the scene of a brief car pursuit. According to the department’s social media post, Tiburon police were called to pursue a 2024 Subaru SUV at approximately 8:30 a.m. The scenario rapidly became more heated when the motorist, defying the authorities’ signals to stop, pressed the gas pedal and led the police on a pursuit into Belvedere.
The suspect left the SUV in “drive” and failed to apply the parking brake, putting it at risk of an uncontrollable roll, then escaped on foot. What may have been an incident was averted by a shrewd officer who jumped into the rolling SUV and brought it to a safe stop.
Soon later, the suspect was found on West Shore Road by the men and women of the Tiburon Police Department. After resisting, the authorities took the 30-year-old San Rafael resident into custody. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered on him.
Police received security footage from a neighborhood resident showing the guy trying to get rid of a backpack in his yard. When the backpack was found, it contained blades, what looked to be burglary equipment, and stolen goods.
According to the Tiburon Police Department’s announcement, the suspect is currently facing several charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle (496 D(A) PC), possession of a controlled substance (11377(A) H&S), possession of unlawful paraphernalia (11364(A) H&S), and evading a peace officer (2800.1(A) CVC). These charges led to his booking at the Marin County Jail.
