(CBS DETROIT) This Thursday, hundreds of thousands of people will line Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit for the 98th Annual America’s Thanksgiving Parade, which will feature six new floats.
Donald Rencher, the president and CEO of the Hudson Webber Foundation, Rachel Stewart, the CEO of Garder-White, and Bob Riney, the president and CEO of The Parade Company, all made an appearance. This year marks the 100th year of the annual parade, which is sponsored by Stewart’s company. During a two-year break brought on by World War II.
As part of their marketing strategies, Stewart discussed changing their float to feature a representation of the Detroit Lions.
Riney gave information on their latest float, which includes their $3 billion Detroit development that is coming to live and includes a new hospital, retail space, and more.
One hundred years ago, JL Hudson initiated the Detroit parade. Despite the retailer’s passing, his family continue to be active. Rencher discussed the Hudson Webber Foundation’s first-ever float, which will be featured in Thursday’s parade and will tell the narrative of JL Hudson in Detroit.
Frank Brady, F.J. Brady, and Jordan Mulka, the recently appointed executive director of the Detroit Goodfellows, are also featured on the broadcast. A newspaperman from Detroit named James Brady founded the 110-year-old group. Both Frank and F.J. Brady have long been Goodfellows winners and are connected to James Brady.
Mulka, who took over as leader this summer, discussed her goals for expanding the group and attracting more young people. She discussed how, in the upcoming weeks, the group with the tagline “No Kiddie Without a Christmas” will deliver more than 26,000 gift boxes to kids around Metro Detroit.
