Police officer, suspect injured in shooting in Lincoln Park, Michigan

(CBS DETROIT)Police say a shooting Tuesday afternoon injured a suspect and a Lincoln Park officer.

The shooting took place in Lincoln Park on the 26400 block of Outer Drive. According to Michigan State Police, the officer and suspect are described as being in stable condition.

According to MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw, the suspect fled while police were investigating drug use in the neighborhood. According to Shaw, the suspect and four Lincoln Park police officers engaged in gunfire, with one officer and the suspect getting struck. Shaw claims that while some of the cops were in uniform, others were operating covertly.

The lower body of the cop was shot. The suspect’s injuries were not described in detail.

The number of shots fired is unclear.

MSP will be in charge of the inquiry.

“We will also be using one of our drones to map out the crime scene out here. Interviewing the involved police and the suspect themselves will then take up a significant portion of it,” Shaw stated.

According to Shaw, their inquiry would be aided by the fact that some of the police officers were wearing body cameras. Additionally, they will be looking into each officer’s and the suspect’s firearm.

“We’re going to do something called a round count now. We are aware of the number of rounds they were given, so we will examine every weapon they have. The next step will be to compare that to the quantity of casings discovered here. We can estimate the number of shots fired in this way,” he stated.
