Commerce Township man found guilty of first-degree murder in wife’s death

(CBS DETROIT) On Tuesday, a man from Commerce Township was convicted of killing his wife in May 2021.

After a six-day trial during which Vuichard claimed insanity, an Oakland County jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, according to the prosecution. The jury deliberated for less than a day.

On May 19, 2021, Vuichard was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. When Vuichard’s wife failed to appear at work on May 17, 2021, police were called to his residence in Commerce Township for a welfare check, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detectives allegedly discovered a comforter covering something on a bathroom floor when they entered the house. Detectives questioned Vuichard what it was, and he said that it was his wife. The body of Vuichard’s wife was discovered. According to investigators, she died from several stab and slash wounds.

According to authorities, the murder occurred on or before May 17, 2021.

“Tanya Vuichard was a mother, grandmother, friend, and coworker. Her senseless murder is a huge loss to the community,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. “My office spent the last three years working alongside her children to get justice for Tanya, and I applaud the trial team for securing a first-degree murder conviction in this very difficult case.”

On February 6, 2025, Vuichard will be sentenced. The obligatory penalty for first-degree murder is life in prison.
