Millions of Michiganders traveling for Thanksgiving. Here’s what to know.

(CBS DETROIT)Prior to what they anticipate to be a record-breaking holiday weekend, AAA anticipates more than 79 million travelers.

Before her journey to Orlando, Suzette Sullivan stated, “I look in advance and purchase my ticket three or four months in advance to get a really good price on the ticket.”

More than 100,000 Americans will be flying this Thanksgiving, despite domestic travel costs increasing by 3% from the previous year.

“So, be patient. Show kindness. “Be grateful that someone is taking you there and getting you back safely,” Sullivan advised.

However, the number of people traveling by “other” means, as opposed to driving and flying, is also increasing this year. Nine percent of Thanksgiving travel will take place by bus or train, according to AAA.

Among them is Sasha Szura, who was interviewed by CBS News Detroit on Wednesday as he got off his Amtrak train in Dearborn, Illinois.

“I’m coming to see my family who live in Grosse Pointe,” said Szura.

“It’s nice to relax because I don’t have to control the car the entire time,” Szura explained when asked why he preferred the train. Additionally, it’s quicker than flying because I can just be picked up from the train station.”

“Consider how many people could be in a car on I-94,” Amtrak’s Marc Magliari said.

Magliari also doesn’t anticipate this trend to taper down anytime soon.

Magliari remarked, “You can be more comfortable and do more on our trains.” “On our trains, you can do whatever that you shouldn’t do when operating a motor vehicle. similar to napping.”
