Michigan State Police urges safe driving as snow hits Metro Detroit

(CBS DETROIT)As snow showers hit Metro Detroit on Friday, Michigan State Police are cautioning drivers of hazardous roads.

The National Weather Service predicts that lake-effect snow showers with a wind chill of roughly 20 degrees will persist throughout the day. Snow showers are affecting several roadways. The Michigan Department of Transportation responded by salting the roads by closing westbound Interstate 696 at Orchard Lake.

Throughout the day, there will be lake effect snow showers, particularly in regions south of M-59. Along I-96, a more structured snow band has formed and is traveling 30 mph eastward. If you’re traveling today, be especially careful.#s0Bh8azKVt #miwxpic.twitter.com

In the event that a motorist loses control, MSP recommends them to increase the spacing between vehicles and slow down to a speed that permits them to maintain control of their vehicle.

“There is just enough snow falling to draw attention to the drivers who are engaging in dangerous driving practices. In a post on X, MSP stated, “Hopefully, we can pretend that we have been there before.”
