Driver killed in wrong-way crash on Lodge Freeway in Detroit

(CBS DETROIT)Early on Friday morning, a driver was murdered when a wrong-way motorist struck their car on the Lodge Freeway.

Around 4:30 in the morning, a collision occurred close to Grand River Avenue.

According to a Michigan State Police post on X, the Detroit Regional Communication Center received complaints on a driver who was heading north in the southbound lanes. According to MSP, an SUV was struck by a Jeep that was traveling in the opposite direction, resulting in the SUV catching fire.

According to MSP, troopers made an unsuccessful attempt to reach the SUV. At the scene, the SUV’s driver was declared dead. It is unknown who they are.

The 27-year-old female driver of the Jeep was sent to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

“The crash reconstruction specialist is now investigating the collision on the site. MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw stated, “We are trying to figure out where the driver entered the road in the wrong direction and where she was coming from.”
