(CBS DETROIT) The University of Michigan Health Plan will be discontinued by Michigan Medicine at the end of 2025.
The University of Michigan Health says the decision would free up resources for direct patient care, education, and research. The university made the announcement on Wednesday.
The UM Health Plan, which runs the Michigan Care and Michigan Care Advantage programs, is mostly owned by Michigan Medicine.
According to university officials, the change will not affect 2025 or current Michigan Care benefits. The plan will handle all claims for services rendered through the end of the next year.
During the upcoming open enrollment cycle in October 2025, current members will have the option to select an alternative University of Michigan health insurance plan.
