Left wing Jake DeBrusk scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Detroit Red Wings lost to the Vancouver Canucks 5–4 on Sunday.
DeBrusk assisted on Erik Brannstrom’s goal that knotted the game with 3:20 remaining in regulation and scored two power-play goals in a 43-second period early in the second period. Vancouver also had a goal from Pius Suter.
Lankinen has surpassed former record-holders Glenn Hall (1965–66) and Cam Talbot (2023–24) to become 10-0-0 on the road this season. Talbot, who started in goal for Detroit on Sunday, was a member of Los Angeles’ team the previous season.
The Red Wings also had goals from Alex DeBrincat, Michael Rasmussen, and Vladimir Tarasenko, in addition to Jonatan Berggren’s goal and assist.
After making 12 saves, Talbot left the game in the second period due to a lower-body ailment. He was replaced by Ville Husso, who made 15 saves while giving up three goals.
The Canucks are 10-2 on the road this season and 4-1 on their current six-game road trip.
Following a 16-game slump, Tarasenko, the Red Wings’ most significant offensive addition in free agency over the winter, has scored in consecutive games.
Vancouver took a 5-on-3 lead into the second session thanks to late-period penalties to Simon Edvinsson and Justin Holl. DeBrusk scored on a tip-in and a rebound after taking advantage of Detroit’s penalty-kill unit, which is the worst in the NHL.
Suter, a fifth-year center who spent two seasons with Detroit, has faced the Red Wings 11 times in his career and scored six goals.
On Tuesday, the Red Wings go to Boston.
