(CBS DETROIT)Months after entering a guilty plea, an Oakland County woman who pretended to be a healthcare professional and witness protection was given a sentence of more than ten years in jail.
Kimberly Coden, 38, entered a guilty plea in August to six counts of unauthorized practice of a health profession (four to six years), two counts of identity theft (four to seven and a half years), and one count of intimidation or interfering with a witness (four to six years), according to the Michigan Attorney General’s office.
At the Oxford Recovery Center, which offers treatment for kids with autism and has locations in Brighton and Troy, Coden served as the director of services.
According to state authorities, Coden falsely claimed to be a board-certified behavioral analyst despite not having a Michigan license or the necessary educational background. Before using it at the Oxford Recovery Center, officials say she obtained the certification number of a real behavioral analyst and used it to secure employment at Centria Health Care, the Positive Behavior Supports Corporation.
According to a news release, Coden also threatened a witness with text messages to keep her from testifying against her.
“Falsifying credentials to gain access to a highly vulnerable population is unethical and reprehensible,” Nessel stated. “I hope this sentence serves as a warning for others that we take the proper training, qualifications, and licensing requirements very seriously and there are real consequences for those who deliberately shirk them.”
