Mark Holmes Jr., a tenant at The Loop on Greenfield apartments, declared, “It is inhumane to live here.”
Holmes expressed concern for his two-year-old son’s safety and stated he and other residents have been without heat.
“My son needs to be in a cool atmosphere when I do have time with him because that’s all I want to do. Furthermore, it’s quite risky for me to simply let him play and feel comfortable in his room while leaving a space heater there. It’s quite difficult,” he remarked.
According to Holmes, he and other residents have complained to the city and the complex on several occasions.
“Stainless steel appliances are not what we are requesting. Brittany Busch, a resident, stated, “We’re requesting heat and basic necessities.” “The temperature in our apartment is 62 degrees. All three of our children are younger than four. How can you safely keep kids warm at night without using space heaters?
Space heaters are Holmes’s solution. Including the little one his apartment lent him, he is utilizing three of them. However, he claimed that it is insufficient and that he frequently uses his oven to warm his apartment.

The apartment management was contacted by CBS News Detroit for comment, but they have not responded.
Holmes claimed that although he has stopped paying rent and intends to depart, the situation is unsafe right now.
“My dad adjusts insurance. So, when he goes to fire claims, and he always tells me, most of the time it’s the space heaters that cause these problems,” he said. “And then on top of that, it’s not safe for any of our kids in this building as residents.”
