Boston Celtics withstand 3-point spree to beat Detroit Pistons 130-120

The Boston Celtics defeated the Detroit Pistons 130-120 on Wednesday night, led by Jaylen Brown’s 28 points and nine assists and Kristaps Porzingis’ 26 points and nine rebounds. It was the Celtics’ ninth win in ten games.

Payton Pritchard scored 19 points off the bench for Boston, while Derrick White finished with 14 points and 11 assists. Less than four minutes into the game, the Celtics led 18–4 and then 20 points after scoring 12 in a row.

Before Detroit made four consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to cut the Celtics’ advantage to eight points, 109-101, Boston coach Joe Mazzulla had to insert Brown back into the game. Tobias Harris’ 3-pointer in the last minute had the Pistons within five points, but Pritchard’s three-pointer clinched the victory.

For Detroit, Cade Cunningham finished with nine rebounds, 14 assists, and 27 points. Malik Beasley scored 23 points off the bench, and Harris scored 27 points as well.

Pistons: Made a season-high 20 3-pointers on 39 tries, including three from Marcus Sasser and Beasley to tie the score in the fourth quarter.

Celtics: The Celtics were too strong for the Pistons, despite the absence of Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum due to injuries.

Porzingis was fouled while driving to the basket with 3:46 remaining. His momentum carried him into the seats, where he raised his arms to the audience and received a loud ovation before slapping hands with a few supporters. He made both free throws, putting Boston ahead 121-107.

Sam Hauser started for the second time this season and finished with a season-high 20 points, including 14 points in the third quarter. His 3-point shooting percentage was 5 out of 10.
