(CBS DETROIT)Getting your car ready for its short or long journey might make all the difference as we get ready for winter.
Carfax editor-in-chief Patrick Olsen advised, “Be sure to keep up with any tire rotations or oil changes because if your tires are too bald or underinflated, it can be a real danger out on the road.”
Other considerations, according to experts, include keeping wiper fluid in your vehicle, preparing a survival kit, and making sure the heat is functioning by checking the coolant levels.
“Have food that will last, make sure you have road flares, and ice scrapers, and have a fully charged phone charger,” Olsen told CBS Detroit.
Experts predict that your car’s battery will die once the weather turns chilly. You may stay ahead of any unforeseen problems by making sure it is in operational condition.
When driving, especially when there is snow on the road, the best tires are those that are appropriate.
“Winter tires can really help you when you are getting started in the snow, but keep you safer when you are trying to stop,” added Olsen.
Keep your gas from dropping along with the temperature, especially if it’s less than a quarter tank. Take your time if you see ice on the road.
“When you are on the ice, don’t apply the brakes suddenly. “Get over the ice, take your foot off the brake, and steer as straight as you can,” Olsen advised.
