Michigan man sentenced to 9 years for armed robbery of hydroponics store

(CBS DETROIT) A Michigan man who participated in the armed robbery of a hydroponics store in February 2020 has been given a nine-year jail sentence.

Westland resident Andrew Curtis Williams, 27, entered a guilty plea in August to participating in the Albion Hydroponics heist, in which a business employee was allegedly beaten with a revolver and restrained.

Williams acknowledged his involvement in the heist on February 10, 2020, according to court records. Williams entered a guilty plea to the charge of brandishing a pistol during the robbery.

A second defendant, Jackson resident Kyle Lynn Carson, 28, is charged with striking the store employee with a gun. After entering a guilty plea, Carson received a five-year prison sentence.

“This crime was extremely dangerous,” U.S. Attorney Mark Totten stated in a press statement. “No one should have to worry about violence while performing their duties. These are grave offenses, and my office will keep collaborating with our law enforcement partners to make sure that those responsible are held accountable and that violent crimes do not occur in our communities.”

Authorities are looking for information about a third individual who participated in the crime but is still unidentified. Call the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ Grand Rapids Office at 616-301-6100 if you have any information about this individual.
