Michigan man found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s sister

(CBS DETROIT)In 2023, a 26-year-old guy from Genesee County was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend’s sister.

According to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office, Cedric Thomas Hendrickson of Burton was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday of first-degree premeditated murder, five counts of assault with intent to murder, thirteen related firearm charges, and one count of domestic violence.

Hendrickson is charged with shooting and killing Mallory Dunnivant, age 35, on January 11, 2023.

According to officials, Hendrickson and Dunnivant’s sister, who shared a kid, had split up the week prior to the shooting and had been fighting via text and phone calls all week. Hendrickson went to Dunnivant’s apartment building with his new girlfriend on the night of the shooting to look for his ex-girlfriend.

According to the police, Hendrickson and his ex-girlfriend got into a fight in the parking lot of the apartment complex while she was at the window of her sister’s third-floor apartment. After that, Hendrickson allegedly got back in his vehicle and, as he was leaving, shot Dunnivant eleven times in the window, killing her.

According to investigators, there were five youngsters inside the flat when the incident occurred.

“This was an absolutely tragic and senseless incident that took the life of a young mother, a beloved sister and daughter, and by all counts a person loved by many in the Mt. Morris community through her work as a paraprofessional at a nearby elementary school,” said David Leyton, the prosecutor for Genesee County. “I want to especially commend the City of Mt. Morris Police Department for their immediate response and follow-up investigation into this matter and the solid case they put together that allowed us to see justice through for Mallory, her family and friends, and our community.”
