(CBS DETROIT) A Westland man was convicted in relation to a June crash in Shelby Township that claimed the lives of two ladies.
The 33-year-old Jose Medina-Hernandez was accused of two counts of moving violations resulting in death. Both are misdemeanors that last one year.
According to authorities, Medina-Hernandez rear-ended a Buick Verano on June 6, 2024, while operating a box truck south in a construction zone on M-53 close to 22 Mile Road. This caused a chain reaction involving two additional vehicles. Nancy Richmond, 88, and Crystal Brunn, 63, were the two passengers in the Buick who perished in the collision.
“We are grateful to the Macomb County jury for bringing justice to the families of those killed in this terrible and avoidable collision. Peter J. Lucido, the prosecutor for Macomb County, said in a statement, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims as they continue to recover from this tragic loss.
The date of Medina-Hernandez’s sentencing was not disclosed by officials.
