(CBS DETROIT) According to police, a Detroit man was taken into custody Thursday after he crashed a stolen Jeep into a residence in Eaton County.
Around three in the morning on Thursday, Michigan State Police were called to the CN Railroad Distribution Center in Windsor Township after two individuals were seen trying to take a GMC SUV off the property. The two suspects abandoned the SUV in the parking lot and fled on foot before the troopers arrived.
Troops were scanning the area when they noticed two Jeeps driving away from the scene close to Oak Highway and Billwood Highway. According to reports, the driver of one of the Jeeps turned off the lights and sped off when a trooper tried to stop it.
After a while, the driver lost control of the Jeep on the slippery roads and collided with an Oak Highway house. After escaping on foot into a forested area, the driver, a 24-year-old Detroit male, was later found and taken into custody along I-69 close to Davis Highway.
The second Jeep drove off. That suspect is still being sought by the police.
The Jeep that crashed was stolen from Detroit, according to the police.
The Detroit guy was arrested for conspiracy, driving with a suspended license, receiving and hiding a stolen car, refusing and obstructing, and changing the VIN with the intent to deceive.
There is an investigation going on.
