(CBS DETROIT) Jeff King, the departing police chief of Farmington Hills, has been replaced with an interim police chief.
John Piggott, a veteran of the Farmington Hills Police Department and the current assistant police chief, will take over as interim police chief. King will retire on December 16 and Piggott will take over his new position.
Gary Mekjianin, the city manager of Farmington Hills, stated in a news release, “I am thankful that John has agreed to take over the position during this period of transition.” “He is an experienced law enforcement leader who is respected among his peers, and I’m confident that he will uphold the Department’s high standards while we take time to consider who will lead the Department in the future.”
In 1996, Piggott became a police cadet at the Farmington Hills Police Department. Prior to being appointed assistant chief in July 2021, he held positions in administration, investigations, and traffic safety. He also worked as a school liaison officer.
According to the city, Piggot holds a master’s degree in business administration from Madonna University and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Grand Valley State University.
For the chief position, Farmington Hills is looking for applicants. In the spring of 2025, the city plans to appoint a new police head.
