(CBS DETROIT)For allegedly threatening a judge in Chippewa County’s 50th Circuit Court and the assistant prosecutor for the county, a man from Michigan entered a no contest plea.
According to the Michigan Attorney General’s office, Clifford Milam, 26, of Sault Ste. Marie, was charged with one count of attempting to make a false report or threaten to commit terrorism. He was accused of being a fourth-time offender.
According to a news release, a sentencing hearing has not yet been set. According to a sentencing deal, Milam could spend five to fifteen years behind bars.
In February 2024, Milam threatened the judge and assistant prosecutor who were working on his charges, according to officials.
“Threats against judges and prosecutors undermine the very foundation of our justice system,” said Attorney General Dana Nessel in a statement. “I hope this case serves as a reminder of the grave consequences of such hazardous behavior to anyone who are contemplating threats of violence against public officials who serve our communities. Those who act in this manner will continue to face consequences from my administration.”
