9-year-old scores tickets to first Detroit Lions game after giving back

Cincinnati, Michigan (CBS Detroit)A 9-year-old child has been given tickets to the Detroit Lions game this weekend for his good act of giving back.

Mason Bonds, a third grader, is getting ready for his first Lions game at Ford Field on Sunday.

“So, I’m going to get signatures from players, and I’m going to go out to the field,” stated Mason.

A food drive was recently held at Mason’s school, Pine Knob Elementary in Clarkston. The winner would receive three field passes and three seats to this weekend’s Lions game.

“We brought in over 9,000 items in total which equaled over 6,000 pounds of food items,” Katrina Rivenburgh, a board member at Pine Knob Elementary, stated.

Mason was determined to win the match. He collected cans from neighbors by going door to door, then used the proceeds to purchase additional food.

“My pal and I were most likely neck and neck. His score was 377. “I received 411 food items,” Mason remarked.

Mason claims that gathering non-perishable food items, such as canned goods, to give to Lighthouse, a nearby nonprofit that assists low-income families, took him two weeks.

“He was thrilled that he could gather food for those in need when I first spoke with him and asked whether he was thrilled about the Lions tickets. The first thing he said was that. Therefore, this will enable us to fill well over two hundred boxes of food for people,” stated Calvary Lutheran Church pastor the Rev. Bob Hegdal.
