(CBS DETROIT) Union workers at the Marathon Petroleum refinery in Southwest Detroit have reached a deal with the corporation following a three-month strike.

According to a statement published on Sunday by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 283 members approved a seven-year collective bargaining deal that includes “significant wage increases, Teamsters health care, and a union pension.”

According to Marathon, efforts are underway to return the workers to the refinery.

In a statement released on Sunday, the firm stated, “We look forward to their return as we continue working together to safely produce transportation fuels for our communities.”

In December 2023, contract discussions got underway.

On September 4, over 270 union members went on strike. Workers from Local 283 went on strike for the first time in thirty years.

140,000 barrels of oil are refined daily at the Detroit facility.
