On the Hutchinson River Parkway, Westchester County leaders have vowed to toughen up on drivers who are traveling in the wrong direction. An accident that included a family of five and the former mayor of Rye Brook is the immediate cause of this situation.
“From what I could tell, there are approximately six persons that are impacted. Indira Mohan, a resident of Rye Brook, exclaims that it is alarming. Rye Brook was the location where the incident took place, and it occurred just after midnight on Monday.
Westchester County Police officers have determined that Joan Feinstein, 75, was the driver traveling in the opposite direction.
According to reports, she collided with a Dodge Durango that was moving a family of five from Connecticut. The three children of the couple were packed into the back seat. They are 12 years old, 17 years old, and 25 years old. Nobody was wounded, and they are expected to all be fine.
Feinstein, on the other hand, had significant injuries.
According to Westchester County Police Chief James Luciano, “She has stabilized but we are still in critical condition.”
“She is a resident of Rye Brook,” the police added. She represented the hamlet as mayor in the year 2008. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was no alcohol involvement at this time,” according to the Chief of Police.
Why she was traveling in the wrong direction is a mystery that investigators are attempting to solve.
To forestall similar mishaps in the future, county officials have stated that they intend to collaborate with the state government. The state is being encouraged to do a study on the region and provide recommendations on ways to improve it.
By the same token, the present mayor of Rye Brook has stated that he is keeping all of those who are recuperating in his thoughts and prayers.
“After hearing this news, I, like many of you, was taken aback and filled with sadness. There was a family of five that was in the other vehicle that was impacted, and we found out that the driver of the vehicle that was traveling in the wrong direction was Joan Feinstein, who had previously served as the mayor of Rye Brook.
They were all sent to the Westchester Medical Center. According to what we have been told, all five members of the family have sustained injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening, and Joan is still in critical condition and is being treated in intensive care.
“We are hoping that all of those who were involved in this terrible accident will make a full recovery,” says Rye Brook Mayor Jason Klein. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those participants.”
Officials with the New York State Department of Transportation published the following statement: “Safety is always a top priority for the New York State Department of Transportation and we are always willing to speak with our local partners regarding potential safety enhancements.
A police investigation is now being conducted into the event that occurred near the Hutchinson River Parkway; therefore, we are unable to speak further at this time.
