According to a statement released by the local government, a train derailed on Wednesday in the Town of Pecos, which is located west of Midland-Odessa. The incident resulted in the death of one individual and the injury of four others.

In the vicinity of Oak Street and Dot Stafford Street at approximately 5:45 p.m., the city reported that a train had collided with a tractor-trailer, which resulted in the derailment.

According to the information provided by Reeves County, the train struck the building that houses the Chamber of Commerce after it had crashed with the tractor-trailer.

Charles Lino, the municipal manager of Pecos, stated that three of the cars on the train were carrying potentially hazardous goods; nonetheless, Lino stated that there had been no breach in security.

Union Pacific issued a statement in which it stated that it is “investigating this fluid situation as we cooperate with local first responders.” The event is being investigated by the authorities, and the city has stated that there is no danger to the general public.

The traffic on Highway 285 in both directions, northbound and southbound, was rerouted.
